An Avatar is the image that shows under your name to the left of each post you make. This can be a photo of yourself or an image of anything you like.

You might want to print these instructions or write them down if you are not sure what to do.

1 . . . . . Click on User Control Panel (UCP) on the top right of the page.

2 . . . . . In the menus on the left of the page click on Profile.

3 . . . . . In the menus on the left of the page click on Edit avatar.

4 . . . . . You now have the choice of 2 options; Upload from your machine, or Upload from a URL. Follow one of the options below;

Upload from your machine:
Choosing this option will allow you to browse your own computer for an image or photo that you have saved on your computer. You can then choose this image to display as your avatar.

On this forum the maximum pixel size of avatars allowed is 120 pixels X 120 pixels.
Should your image be larger than this size then you can resize this before following the instructions below. See Resizing Avatars for tips and instructions on how to do this.

So now you have a correctly sized image saved to your computer, follow the steps below to set it as your Avatar:

1 . . . . . Click the button next to the Upload from your machine option that is entitled Browse....

2 . . . . . This will open a new window showing all the files and folders on your computer. Navigate to the image you wish to use. (This will usually be saved in the My Pictures or Pictures folder).

3 . . . . . Click once on the image of your choice to highlight and then click Open at the bottom of the window.

4 . . . . . The file name will now be diplayed in the box next to the Upload from your machine box. Click Submit.

Providing you have done everything right, you will see a confirmation message and you can now leave the UCP and continue posting!.

Upload from a URL:
Choosing this option will allow you to directly link your Avatar image from another website.

This option is less preferable not only because it is a pain to explain!!!! (well I'm honest!) but also is less preferable because if the image is moved or deleted on the original website then the link will be broken and the image will no longer work.

It is much easier to right click on the image you like, click on Save Picture As... and save it to your computer. Then you can follow the instructions for Upload from your machine above.
