RULES OF THE FORUM

Please read and make yourselves familiar with the Forum Rules.

These rules are not there to make life on the forum restrictive, they are merely here to ensure a happy, constructive and busy forum.

Recent events dictate the need to set out written rules for the forum so as to avoid any confusion

The rules of the forum are as set out below. Failure to follow these rules may result in editing or deletion of offending posts and offenders may be subject to consequences under the disciplinary procedure.

The disciplinary procedure can be found HERE.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

GENERAL RULES

• Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. Flaming or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning.

• Any member who is intentionally unpleasant or disruptive may be banned without warning.

• Do not advertise other forums.

• Do not entice members to external chat programs (e.g. MSN or Yahoo messenger).

• Instructions by the moderator team are to be followed.

• Rudeness towards the Admin / Mod Team will not be tollerated.

• Be respectful of others' opinions.

• Please do not SHOUT. ("Shouting" is typing whole sentences in uppercase / capitals)

• Allow your fellow members to voice their opinions.

• Do not deliberately start arguments. Debates are great, as long as they remain respectful!

• The Admin / Moderator team reserve the right to edit or remove any post for any reason.

CHAT BOX

• Please keep any substantial conversation to the forums and not the chat box. Otherwise feel free to pass the time posting idle small talk in the chat box.

• Substantial chat would be anything more than the casual "hi what you been up to kind of banter". CMT Topic specific should especially be kept to the forums please.

• Please use common sense when using the chat box and do not just log on to the forum to use the chat box. Please also post on the forum.

• The Chat Box is a bonus to the main forum and it is not unreasonable to request that people do not just log into the forum and use the Chat Box. It is requested that members post at least one message on the forum for each conversation in the Chat Box. Whilst this cannot be enforced within the technology of the forum, it will be monitored and a polite reminder sent in the first instances if necessary.

• Do not use the Chat Box to entice members to external chat programs (e.g. MSN or Yahoo messenger).

SIGNATURES

• Signatures should be no more than 400 characters long and should not contain excessively sized images.

• Links in signatures are allowed but should be relevant to you or to the forum.

AVATARS

• The size limit for Avatars on the forum is 120 X 120 Pixels.

• Avatars should not contain offensive images.

SPAM

• Spam is not allowed and will be deleted.

• Members should not reply to Spam posts as this encourages more Spam posts. Instead you should send a PM the a member of the Admin / Mod Team reporting the post in question.

Don't worry about asking! I just feel that too much "substantial conversation" in the chat box gets confusing and hard to follow, a new thread in the Chit Chat section can be used as easily. At the end of the day if it is a private chat with a person then PMs can be used.

Also, the chat box doesn't always react the best, got a few techy glitches whih annoy me :wall:

To reiterate and clarify the rule regarding Chat box use. Please do keep substantial chat to the forums and not the chat box.

At this point I have chosen not to specify what "substantial chat" is as I do not want to suppress free speech however I want to confirm my reasons for this rule.

Using the chat box for substantial conversations makes the chat box confusing and hard to follow.

The chat box doesn't work as well as I would like (there are a number of faults with it) but it is the best we've got, these faults add to the problem of the chat box being hard to follow.

Also, posting too much in the chat box takes posts away from the forums which in turn makes the forum appear a lot quieter than it is and as you all know it can be pretty quiet already without this adding to it.

Thanks guys

:nana: sorry Sam but sometimes I can't be bothered with anything but using the chat box as it is so immediate. Sometimes to do more is more then my depression can hack its way through.

Walter, it is just as easy to start a new topic or to reply to an existing on than it is to use the chat box. I appreciate your comments though.

I find it useful for a quick chat with whoever is on at the same time. But anything structured and in depth I would start a thread.

Chat box I think is fine for a quick hello how's you chat.

I agree, also it is so much easier to see what has been said if it is a topic. This site is so good for so many people and, when you think about it the rules are just reiterating the way in which decent people should go about things.

There are nearly 100 members on here and I think it's great that all those people have contact with others who are going though the same things in life.

Well done Sam and thank you  :bighug:
